Way to go!

Session 2 wraps up today and I am very proud to say that the swimmers are ready to start Cruzers! With the 6U we are still working on breathing to the side as well as comfortably floating on our backs, but they all jump in ethusiastically and swim across the pool. I am very pleased with their improvements and success! I have been dividing the 7-8s into 2 groups--there is a group who swam last year and has mastered free style, working on backstroke, and a group of  those that need a bit more technique work on their strokes. Throughout the summer, the coaches and I will continue working with smaller groups to help those swimmers who need some extra stroke work. It might be for freestyle, backstroke or with their dives. It is nothing to be discouraged about! Please help your swimmer understand this, as it can be a touchy subject. I look forward to a wonderful season ahead of us!

Today...

Thank you to those of you who were ready and on time today...as you might have noticed I was a bit late. I apologize. My plan is to be down on deck at 4:10 getting kids who are ready in the water. When parents notice this, go ahead and send your swimmer down to his/her coach.  Some of you might be wondering what group your swimmer is in and why he/she is in that particular group. I have noticed that we have a lot of "swimmers" who are water safe, but not necessarily ready to learn freestyle. We want your child to be able to float with their face in the water, kick effeciently on his/her own blowing bubbles, as well as have a successful bubble-arm-breath-arm all before trying freestyle. When the coach sees this, they will pull that swimmer out and put them in the FREE lane.

Tomorrow, Coach Kathleen and Coach Natale will be working in small groups concentrating on those 3 things at both ends of the pool in Lane 1. They will also start floating and kicking on backs. I will be in Lanes 2-3, continuing to work technique with bubble-arm-breathe-arm transitioning into freestyle, as well as kicking on their backs. Coach Steve might be wondering the deck, supervising and moving swimmers around as well.

If you have any questions or concerns, please dont hesitate to email me at lmorgan@eanes.k12.tx.us. Again, thank you for your patience with this process as well as with your trust and confidence. There is not a doubt in my mind that all the swimmers are having a fun time out there learning  how to swim!

Getting Started

Parents, I know it is taking a bit of time to get in the water. We coaches need to take attendance everyday, and with that many kids, it takes some time. However, we will be down on deck at 4:10, and if yall are already there and ready, please  send your swimmer down to their coach. They should know if they are with Caoch Natale, Coach Kathleen, or myself.  If you are ever a couple minutes late, go ahead and just send them down to their coach, too. This should cut down on wait time and let us get some more "in the water" time. Thanks for your patience!

What a day?!

Today was a great day! I was thrilled to see all of those enthusiastic and prepared swimmers. As you all saw, there are a lot of swimmers at this time--it will be very helpful to us coaches if the parents can direct their swimmers down to the deck at 4:10. We will meet over by the fence everyday to get started. Also, I would love it if all swimmers wore goggles and all goggles always worked. ...but we all know that this does not happen. If the goggles are a problem then we will ask the swimmer to take them off. If the swimmer refuses to wear goggles then he/she will need to open their eyes while in the water. It is way too crowded and dangerous to swim with eyes shut! Tomorrow, we will move 6U groups around a bit--please be patient while we find the best place for your swimmer to both learn and have fun! Let's get ready for another great day!

Let's go Session 2

Today is the beginning of Head Start for many of yall, and I am so excited to see all of the new faces. There will be lots of them :)  We have 3 coaches for Head Start this session: Coach Natale, Coach Kathleen adn myself Coach Lee. We will divide the swimmers between us coaches according to the level of the swimmer. Today will be a trial as we figure out which group your swimmer best fits in. If you have any questions or concerns about this please contact me after Head Start. While we are down on deck, the other coaches and myself want to be fully dedicated to the swimmers. We look forward to meeting all of you all this afternoon. See yall down on deck!
